Star Trek Online Rank Guide - Sto Ranks Exposed!

Star Trek Online Rank Guide - Star Trek Online is all about skills, isn't it?  As skills are maxed out, players go up the ranks. As you climb up each rank, you become a specialist in a smaller set of skills.  A Star Trek Online Ranks guide would teach you all about this and more, such as:

How are Star Trek Online Ranks obtained?

Players have missions to complete. Along the line, skill points are earned with can be used to further strengthen skills.  STO boasts several unique features which separates it from other games, one being the way character progression and leveling works. In STO, as in the series and movies, players can achieve six different ranks, which preserves its uniqueness, except that in STO players get to command their own ship as soon as they begin to play. Awesome!

The six STO ranks are:

1 - Ensign

2 - Lieutenant

3 - Lieutenant Commander

4 - Commander

5 - Captain

6 - Admiral

The jump between STO ranks are referred to as promotions. In order to get a promotion, players would have to have used a certain number of skills. For this skill-based game, going up the ranks can be seen as a form of leveling.  Ranks provides a means to measure how far you've advanced your character. As in the case of other games, the items, equipment or other accessories would depend on how far you have maxed-out your skills and current rank.

How do Ranks work?

Ranks are achieved primarily by completing missions, with skill points as reward. When those skill points are used you will get a grade (level), and ten grades upgrade your character to the next rank. Progressing through grades and ranks will offer you better equipment and more powerful abilities which players can use in both ground and space combat.

On each rank you'll also get a new ship, so don't forget to visit Earth Space-dock to requisition it. So, this is the character progression in STO and because it may confuse new players,  getting a Star Trek Online Ranks Guide will remove any confusion and make it simple to understand.

How a Star Trek Online Ranks Guide helps

The easiest way to gain skill points and therefore level quickly is repeatedly doing exploration missions. You would not know this upfront but with a useful STO Rank Guide.

You would then know to avoid tedious, boring or frustration playtime and be the wiser for the next level and what to experience.  You'd also learn how to gain plenty of skill points by engaging in PvP combat vs missions, and the type of missions and encounters that are most fun and have the best equipment.

About the Author

Anyone who knows, could you give me a general idea about Star Trek : Deep Space Nine?

I've almost run out of the Star Trek original series and the Next Generation. So I'd like to know who the characters are and where Deep Space Nine is? Don't give a link, they take ages to load.

Personally, DS9 was by far my favourite Star Trek series. I found it a great deal more complex in terms of plot and characters, and very much enjoyed the season-spanning story arcs.

The basic premise is that it is set on a former Cardassion space station called Terok Nor, now renamed by the Federation as Deep Space Nine. It orbits a planet called Bajor, which is recovering from occupation by the Cardassions. In the pilot episode, a wormhole is found close by, which provides a link to the Gamma Quadrant, which is the other side of the galaxy. This transforms the station from being a back-water outpost, to one of the Federation's most important space stations. The series really gets going later on, where a powerful enemy - The Dominion - invade through the wormhole from the Gamma Quadrant, plunging the Federation, Klingons and Romulans into war. Exciting stuff!!!!

Here are the main characters:

Benjamin Sisko - The commanding officer of the station. A tough, no-nonsense commander, and a very different style of captain to Kirk and Picard!

Kira Nerys - The first officer of DS9. A former Bajoran freedom fighter, who at first isn't particularly happy to have the Federation there.

Odo - A shapeshifter, who knows nothing of his origins. He is the station's chief of security.

Jadzia Dax - The Chief Science Officer, and a close friend of Sisko's. She is a Trill, who you may remember from TNG. The Dax symbiote is very old, and has lived in many other Trills. Jadzia is the latest host. Therefore, although young, she has centuries of experience.

Miles O'Brien - Yup, it's the transporter chief from The Next Generation! He's now Head of Operations, essentially the Chief Engineer of the station.

Julian Bashir - The Chief Medical Officer. Young, idealistic and highly intelligent.

Quark - A Ferengi who owns and runs the station's bar. Essentially acts as comic relief in the series.

Rom - Another Ferengi. He's Quark's brother and works as a bartender. Only a minor character early on, but becomes more central in later seasons.

Elim Garak - A Cardassion, and the resident tailor on the station. He is also a former spy who worked for the Obsidian Order. One of my favourite characters in the whole of Trek! Funny and sinister at the same time!

Jake Sisko - Benjamin's son. Annoying as hell!

Other characters also join later on in the series, including Worf from TNG! I really recommend it - the first season can be a bit slow going, but stick with it. It'll be worth it!
